United StatesOn January 28, 2008, life handed us more than our share of lemons when our then 5 year old son, Sam, was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma. Cancer was always something I worried about but figured since there was no family history of cancer, chances were pretty good that it would never happen to my family.
Over the course of the year, Sam received 6 rounds of chemo at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, 2 autologous stem-cell transplants at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and 20 rounds of radiation. Sam is currently taking Accutane two weeks every month. While Sam's scans have been clean thus far, we know that the chances of relapse are high. We need to find a cure for neuroblastoma and other aggressive pediatric cancers, and we need to find treatments that are much less toxic than the ones currently available.
We have kept a blog of Sam's journey through cancer. Learn more about Sam at www.caringbridge.org/visit/samuelphilips
