I'm holding a fundraiser to help Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation move one step closer to finding a cure for all children with cancer! You can join me by making a donation right to this page, while visiting Goldfish Swim School- Dayton, or coming to the family swim on August 27th from 2-4. The money you donate will pay for research to find better treatments and cures for childhood cancer. Please help kids and their families by providing desperately needed hope! We will be splitting the money raised at the school between Alex's Lemonade Stand and Camden Sherer. Since the day he was born, Camden has always been full of life. Whether that was as a very vocal infant, to an always running toddler- Camden has always kept his parents running in circles chasing him, until June 2, 2016. Camden was complaining of headaches and nausea when laying down, and refused to lay flat on his back. After an appointment with the pediatrician, she recommended taking Camden to the ER to get a CT scan to ensure he had no fluid on the brain following a recent viral infection (very common in children). She reassured that the ER was simply the quickest way to get a CT scan, and is not an implication of an emergency. After a few hours in the ER, they were told Camden, who turned 4 only two weeks prior had a cancerous brain tumor in his cerebellum, and that they would be admitted to the hospital for a minimum of two weeks for surgery and follow-up treatment. Camden was taken to surgery the next morning, as they were cautioned he may not walk or talk when he wakes up. Yet, as Camden always does, he surpised everyone again, by yelling "mommy" when he was extubated two days after surgery, and walking out of the hospital five days later. The surgeon believes the majority of the tumor was removed, with a small amount of tumor left on his inoperable brain stem. Camden's tumor was diagnosed as a pilocytic astrcytoma, which is one of the best types of cancer a child can be diagnosed with. While we are thrilled he has not required treatment at this time, we are cautious in our celebrations until his next scan in September. Right now, Camden is back to running around as a Superhero, an Avenger to be exact, and wowing us all with his vast knowledge of animals and dinosaurs. The next five years, at least, will be a long road for Camden and our family. However, in true Camden fashion we are confident he will surprise everyone yet again, and show cancer how Superheros fight back!
Thanks for your support!
