Welcome to Team Justin's Fight! We are participating in Alex's Million Mile to help move us closer to finding a cure for all children with cancer! All you have to do is walk, run, or cycle and track your progress. It's an easy to way to get involved in raising awareness for pediatric cancer, for the little warriors who fight, and those angels watching over us.
Justin Thomas Seiler was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma on January 27, 2015. DIPG is a type of brain tumor, which is resistant to chemotherapy and inoperable. At the time, the Seiler family was stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Singapore. After he was diagnosed, Justin and his mother, Mistie, flew back to Ohio to seek treatment for Justin and to be closer to family, while his father Patrick and sister Jessica stayed behind. Within a few short weeks, Mistie and Justin were off again, this time to California, for Justin to receive proton radiation therapy. Patrick and Jessica made the journey from Singapore to meet them and finally, their family was reunited. Once Justin finished his proton radiation therapy, they traveled back to Ohio.
An MRI revealed that the radiation had in fact been successful in shrinking the tumor! Sadly, the tumor had also begun to spread, and there was no longer anything that could be done to stop it. Patrick and Mistie made the decision to bring Justin home so he could spend his time with them and his sisters Julie and Jessica, and to allow their many friends and family to come and see him. Justin's last weeks were spent surrounded by his loving family, and on July 1, 2015, he became a heavenly angel.
Please join us in honoring Justin Seiler and his courageous battle against DIPG!
