When a school teacher asked her students to work on a “Humanity Project” during class, a group of friends decided to host a lemonade stand for charity. As they started planning, one thing led to another and the lemonade stand idea matured into a 5K walkathon fundraiser to be held on Sunday June 4th at the Bridgewater Raritan High School.
Sia, Katherine and Bela picked Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) as the charity to support. ALSF works on research to find a cure for childhood cancer. It was started by Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who was suffering from cancer at the time. She decided to put up a lemonade stand in her front yard to raise money for research. She was just four years old then, yet she raised over $2,000 on just ONE lemonade stand. Sadly she died in 2004, when she was only eight, but raised 1 million dollars and gave hope to other childhood cancer victims. ALSF has continued Alex’s efforts since then.
