My youngest grandson, Alex McLin, was stricken last year at age 11 with osteosarcoma, a rare aggressive bone cancer.. He has undergone months of grueling chemotherapy and extensive surgery on his left leg and right lung. Alex has needed all his courage to deal with his cancer battle. I summoned all my courage, overcame my fear of flying, and made my first parachute jump on July 22 with Patriot's Parachute Team (former Navy Seals). I did this to honor Alex and his struggle, and to call attention to the need for more funding for children's cancer research. You can see the video of my jump here: https://youtu.be/P-HISb3xoEI.
My husband and I hosted an informational meeting on Sunday, September 17, 10:30 AM at the San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church in Alamo, CA. We were honored to have Dr. Caroline Hastings from UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital provide some facts and trends releated to childhood cancer. Dr. Hastings has been very active in spreading the word about childhood cancer, and has personally raised millions for research. You can view her presentation here: https://1drv.ms/p/s!ArVCtc6T9WrrhflFPIUUW32TvQVZFQ
In addition to Dr. Hastings, I showed the video of my parachute jump, and talked about what led me to do it.. Finally, one of my jumpmates, a former Navy Seal, showed us some amazing video of a couple of his more challenging jumps.
