We are the Celtic Cowboys Ladies Gaelic football team in Austin Texas. Our team comprises of 25+ women in ages ranging from 23 - 45+. (Never ask a lady her age). We are mostly American, sprinkled with some homegrown Irish, Scottish, Filipino and other nationalities learning and promoting the amazing Irish sport of Gaelic Football. The team is coached by Irishman Pat Doab, a true gentleman and leader with a passion for spreading the Irish culture and his love of Gaelic football to anyone who will listen. Most of our members were recruited on a late night or early morning at the local Irish pub watching soccer matches. The Celtic Cowboys will be competing monthly in our state league competions and tournaments preparing for Nationals in Chicago IL over Labor Day 2015. One goal - win Nationals!
Gaelic football, commonly referred to as football or Gaelic, is an Irish team sport. It is a form of football derived from traditional Irish ball games. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by passing the ball through the other team's goals or a set of two upright posts separated by a crossbar 2.5 metres above the ground.
Everytime we make the ball through the uprights-"fieldgoal" it is called a point. If the ball is scored into the "net" (envision a soccer goal with a keeper) it is called a goal. Each goal is worth three points. Scores are recorded in the format Goal Total-Point Total. . For example, in a match with a final score of Team A 0-21 (21 total) Team B 4-8, Team A is the winner with 21 points, as Team B scored only 20 points (4 times 3, plus 8)
My personal pledge for the season is $10 each goal and $5 each point throughout the entire football season. It's going to be a great year -2015. Excited for our team to fight childrens cancer while we promote our favorite sport!
