On September 13, 2009, I’ll spend the afternoon selling lemonade by hosting an Alex’s Lemonade Stand to fight childhood cancer. I am spending the next few days and weeks preparing for this stand. The money raised will go to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer, a 501(c)3 public charity, to fund childhood cancer research projects. The mission of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is to raise funds and awareness of childhood cancer causes, primarily to support research into new cures and treatments; to encourage and educate others, especially children, to raise money for childhood cancer by holding their own lemonade stands; and to expedite the process of finding new cures and bringing them to children with cancer now. This cause is so near and dear to my heart because my son, Shane, was diagnosed with cancer when he was 8 months old. Shane was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer called Hepatoblastoma. June 16, 2009 was Shane's 1 year in remission date. We are so thankful that he is now healthy and cancer free. Unfortuantely not all kids and families are as lucky as we were. I feel driven to help this very worthy cause to raise money to help find cures for the many different types of childhood cancers.
