Welcome to Andrew's fundraising page! We're really excited to be holding our first ever Alex's Lemonade Stand, which will be August 1st 2009 at Thistledown Racetrack. On July 7th 2006, at just 11 months old, Andrew was diagnosed with a brain tumor; Grade II Diffuse Astrocytoma. Because he was so young & his tumor was growing slowly surgery was delayed until May 3rd 2007. Since his operation the remainder of Andrew's tumor has stayed stable, for which we are endlessly grateful.. Andrew is now, at 4 years old, a 3-year Brain Cancer Survivor! However we know his journey is far from over & we will still have much to face when the tumor that still remains grows again.. We also know that unfortunately we aren't in the battle alone, approximately 30,000 children in the U.S. are battling cancer. Each school day, about 46 more children are diagnosed. Although survival rates have improved, 35% of kids diagnosed don't survive. The majority of children who do become survivors suffer moderate to severe long term side effects of treatment, including increased risk of secondary cancers. Research for childhood cancers is desperately needed so we can improve survival rates & find safer treatments for the kids & we thank your donation to Alex's Lemonade Stand!
