Team Eureka: Laurie Hee, Bob O'Malley, Mary Ann Hee, & Colleen Hee
Why we're getting involved in the 1st Annual Lemon Run:
Childhood cancers are the #1 disease killer of children - more than asthma, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, and pediatric AIDS COMBINED.
Several members of Team Eureka! are former colleagues of Jay Scott's, who wish the Foundation success as it carries on Alex's dream of finding a cure for childhood cancer and changing the statistic above in the near future.
Why we went with "Eureka!":
The lemon has come to represent Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, and Team Eureka! is (both literally and figuratively) running with the theme: the common lemon, those purchased in your grocery store, is actually known as the Eureka lemon.
As Merriam Webster's Online states, eureka is an interjection "used to express triumph on a discovery." Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation is committed to triumphing on the discovery of finding new cures for childhood cancers and making them available now, with a main part of their mission being to "raise money and awareness of childhood cancer causes, primarily research into new treatments and cures."
To date, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation has raised over $25 million for childhood cancer research and has already given millions of dollars for childhood cancer research across the country. Team Eureka! is participating in Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation's 1st Annual Lemon Run so that researchers will be able to claim "Eureka!" someday soon.
Help support Team Eureka! in its efforts to support Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation's goal of finding a cure for childhood cancers. Please join Team Eureka!, make a pledge, or help spread the word about Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation and the event. Your contribution, in whatever way possible, is much appreciated!
