Every day, there are almost 700 new cases of childhood cancer around the world. This adds up to an estimated 250,000 new cases of cancer affecting children under the age of 20 each year worldwide. And yet, childhood cancer is vastly and consistently underfunded with less than 4% of the federal government's total funding for cancer research is dedicated to childhood cancers each year.

This September, Avery’s Army will Be Bold & Go Gold during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by participating in Alex’s Lemonade Stand’s Million Mile. We are proud to join Alex’s Lemonade Stand in their efforts to increase awareness, fitness and funds. We welcome anyone and everyone to join us as we run, walk and cycle and raise as much money as possible to help kids with cancer.

What is Alex’s Lemonade Stand? Alexandra "Alex" Scott, a young cancer patient, was only 4 years old when she decided to hold a lemonade stand to raise money for "her hospital," so doctors could help other kids like they'd helped her. Alex held her first stand in 2000 and continued to hold lemonade stands each year, inspiring support from her community and across the nation. Although sadly Alex passed away at the age of 8, she knew she had reached the ambitious goal of raising $1 million for childhood cancer research.

The miles you log and the dollars you contribute have the potential to make a huge difference in the lives of kids with cancer (and their families) by contributing to research into better and safer treatments and more cures. It doesn't matter if you can only go 1 mile or raise $1(it might be the dollar that finds a cure) in the month of September, as a team we will go far and raise lots of money.
