After Ms. Sorrell read the story How to Make Lemonade from www.readingatoz.com with our One-Way Dual Language Third Grade students at Slack Elementary, they were completely inspired by Alexandra Scott and her bravery. They wanted to help raise money for her foundation, so we decided to hold our own lemonade stand during our Valentine's Day campus celebrations. In Texas, we have strict nutritional guidelines to uphold, so we focused on utilizing our one free day to sell lemonade slushes campuswide, and exceeded our goal of $250 with an astonishing amount of $370. Our students are extremely proud of their accomplishments! We plan to make this a yearly fundraiser. As educators, both Ms. Sorrell and Mrs. Jones feel overwhelmingly proud of our students and their desire to give back to others.
