Since the C.U.F.F.S. Charity has been involved with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation I have had the opportunity to speak with some amazing and resourceful people who have been affected by childhood cancer. Listening to these people I have seen how this disease can take a family and push them to their limits, test their faith and mentally break them down to the point that they feel like they will never get through what is happening to their child. Having gone through some very difficult situations in my life, which have tested my faith and mentally broke me down, comparing my situation to a parent who is trying to put on that brave face, hiding their emotions staying strong for their own child who is battling for their own existence seems so trivial. I would and could never say I understand, because thankfully I do not. Cancer does not discriminate, it does not care what the color of your skin is what sex you are or how much money you have. The fact is that cancer can take the most important thing to a parent. When dealing with such an essential part of our life, their children, they all have the same questions, anger and fear. Speaking to these parents and hearing them tell me their story I have noticed one factor that remained constant. This observation was supported by a video I saw of Mrs. Liz Scott who if you don’t know is the mother of Alexandra “Alex” Scott founder of Alex’s Lemonade Stand. Mrs. Scott spoke about the bravery and selflessness that Alex showed on the outside and this courage has been what I have found for just about all the people that I have spoke to. Its almost like they are pulling you through instead of you pulling them through and that is for me the hardest thing to see. NO CHILD should have to experience the need to be strong for their mom and dad, they just need to be kids. Working with and seeing how Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation comforts and guides these families is nothing but inspirational. I firmly believe without Alex’s vision of making sure no child ever having to deal with cancer and the amazing strength that Liz and Jay Scott have to continue Alex’s legacy is something that should be commended. If not for people like the Scott’s the battle to end childhood cancer and the support that they give to families would be only a vision of what could be.
Thank you,
