Alex Scott was born on Jan 18, 1996, a day after my own 21st birthday. While I was enjoying my first (legal!) drink, Alex's body was preparing to assault her with neuroblastoma - a childhood cancer. Alex's cancer was discovered just before her 1st birthday.
In 2000, while I was fretting about whether to stay at Lamb's Players Theatre or branch out into other theatrical work, Alex was busy raising $2000 at her lemonade stand: She wanted to raise money to help doctors help other kids like her. FOUR years old. At eight years old, Alex succumbed to the cancer after raising over $1 million to help other kids. Her spirit & mission live on, thanks to her parents.
In honor of Alex and in an effort to help kids like her, I'm running 10 miles this Sunday in the Philadelphia Broad Street Run, and I'm asking you to make a donation of some denomination of her birthday: $1.18 or $11.80... (or really rock my world with a $11,896 donation! NOT REALLY.) Seriously, thanks for anything you can give. Blessings. And aloha.
