While many of her peers spent the past summer dividing their time between soaking up sun and hitting up bars, April Solon holed up in a Worcester lab, studying cancer cells.
After applying for and receiving a grant from Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer, Solon spent 10 weeks at the Castilla Lab at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester researching the effects and interaction of different drugs used to treat acute myeloid leukemia, she said.
