Thank you to everyone who joined us for The Tenth Annual Lemon Ball on Saturday, January 16, 2016. It was an exceptional evening, with 1,000 guests in “yellow tie” honoring the life and legacy of Alex’s Lemonade Stand’s founder, Alex Scott, and joining together in support of childhood cancer research.
Presented by Applebee’s, Northwestern Mutual, Toys”R”Us, and Volvo, with major support from Auntie Anne’s, the gala raised over $927,000.
Highlights from the gala, held at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, included Stand Host of the Year honoree, 11-year-old Maya Rigler, announcing during her acceptance speech that she had reached her $250,000 fundraising goal. Alex Gordon, the 2015 World Series Champion with the Kansas City Royals, was honored as the Foundation’s Volunteer of the Year. Presenting and founding sponsor Volvo was awarded the Alex Scott Crystal Cup, the Foundation’s highest honor.
During the live auction, Liz Scott’s famous lemon cookies raised over $48,000. Paintings created by childhood cancer heroes sold in the silent auction for $1,800. In total, the live and silent auctions raised more than $160,000. Beautiful jewelry donated by Govberg Jewelers was raffled off, raising more than $16,000.
The evening celebrated the life and inspiration of founder Alexandra “Alex” Scott. In her remarks, Liz Scott, Alex’s mother and co-executive director of the Foundation, read a heartfelt letter she had written to her daughter reflecting on all that Alex helped make possible.
