THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED MAKE THE LEMONADE STAND -- BOTH IN PERSON AND ONLINE -- A HUGE SUCCESS. AS YOU CAN SEE, WE BLEW THROUGH OUR GOAL AND WE HAVEN'T EVEN DEPOSITED ALL THE FUNDS FROM THE EVENT YET! STAY TUNED FOR THE FINAL AMOUNT...AND IN THE MEANTIME, KEEP THE DONATIONS COMING! We are raising funds to support local hero Maya Rigler in her endeavor to help cure childhood cancer! Please stop by for a cup of refreshing lemonade before, during or after Sunday School on May 3. If you can't make it on May 3, you can always make a donation right here on our site. Here is Maya's story:
Maya Rigler is a 5th grader who lives not too far from Shir Ami. She's a Camp Harlam kid, her parents are local rabbis who have worked with Rabbi Strom and Rabbi Goldberg and known them many years living in the Philadelphia community.
When Maya was two she had a type of kidney cancer called a Wilms tumor. Cured within a year, she went on to be a regular Jewish kid living in suburban Philadelphia. This January she was diagnosed with a second tumor, seemingly unrelated.
Maya's friends and family wanted to send gifts but Maya said she would rather see them work to make sure that no other kid gets cancer again. She launched her virtual lemonade stand and asked folks far and wide to hold lemonade stands and raise money in her honor.
At Shir Ami we jumped in and said we'd love to help. What a great way to teach our kids the value of Tikun Olam, helping the world.
We hope you will contribute in honor of Maya. Share this link with your friends. And if you want to hold your own stand, let us know!
Maya tracks her web page each and every day. A donation to Alex's Lemonade is a great way to put a smile on this amazing 10 year old's face!
Thank you for your generosity!
