Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer

Thank you for making the 2011 “A Stand for Hope: the Alex Scott Phone Bank” the most successful to date!

The 15-hour fundraiser held on CBS3 and The CW Philly to raise funds for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation broke the million dollar mark in pledges in 2011! The event, raised $1,015,618 for pediatric cancer research, a record for the fundraiser which began in 2007.

In addition to contributions from the public, area businesses contributed to the fundraiser including Applebee’s/Corner Bakery, leading the pack with a check for $300,000. Other corporate contributors included Volvo with a contribution of $200,000, Walmart with a $145,000 donation and Just Born Candies and Power Home Remodeling Group each with $100,000 donations.

CBS3’s Chris May, Susan Barnett, and Pat Ciarrocchi spearheaded the effort.   Additionally, on-air personalities from CBS Radio joined their TV partners in the fight against childhood cancers.  Ross Brittain, Valerie Knight and Frank Lewis of the Breakfast Club at 98.1 WOGL helped to staff the phones and offered concerts tickets to Journey and Foreigner as incentives.  They were joined by radio colleagues Dom Giordano from the new Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, Paul Jolovitz from SportsRadio 610 WIP and Sarah, Spike, Gordon and Jennifer Reed from 94 WYSP who offered U2 tickets as an incentive to donors.

The Phone Bank featured special “Alex hours,” pre-empting regularly-scheduled programming from 9 to 10AM, 3 to 4PM, and 7 to 8PM on CBS3.  The 3PM and 7PM hours were simulcast on The CW Philly.
