Since 2004, Hy-Vee Supermarkets in Kansas City, Lawrence, Topeka and St. Joseph have supported Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation through their participation in Midwest Lemonade Days June 6 and 7, 2014. This year’s goal was ambitious: to bring the cumulative total for the event to $1 million dollars. With over $100,000 raised, the goal was met!
Similar to Alex’s story, what started as one store helping a local family has blossomed into a community effort throughout Kansas and Missouri, with 25 Hy-Vee locations hosting lemonade stands annually. Wanting to do more than host lemonade stands throughout the year, Hy-Vee has championed all children affected by childhood cancer throughout the community by integrating the Foundation's mission into several of their marketing initiatives and sponsorships including their partnerships with the Kansas City Royals, Worlds of Fun and 7-Up Bottling.
It is through this relationship that Alex Gordon, a Kansas City Royal and an All Star in 2013, became a supporter of ALSF. This year, Alex and his family visited a local Hy-Vee to raise awareness and additional funds. Special yellow grocery ALSF totes were given out with a $5 donation.
