Alex Gordon, Kansas City Royals’ all-star left fielder, will lend a glove to both youth baseball players and the fight against childhood cancer with the first annual Alex Gordon Classic, taking place May 1-3, 2015 at the Mid America Sports Complex in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. The tournament, organized by Midwest Sports Productions, will invite boys’ baseball teams ranging from 8-14 years of age to a competitive tournament that will also raise fund for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.

A longtime supporter of the mission of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and the fight against childhood cancer, Alex Gordon was eager to create his own fundraising event focusing on his strengths – baseball and giving back. The tournament was the perfect fit, and includes a three game guarantee as well as many fundraising incentives to provide teams with the opportunity to spend additional time with the 4-time Rawlings Gold Glove awardee. Gordon will address the teams on Saturday, May 2.

Along with the competitive play, teams from the area will be encouraged to take part in the fundraising competition. To provide incentive, the first place fundraising team will win a meet and greet with Alex Gordon at the tournament fields and the opportunity to take a team photo with him. Additionally, they will be invited to participate in an on-field check presentation at a Royals game courtesy of 18 tickets donated by Hy-Vee, watch Royals battling practice, receive autographed photos from Gordon and a pizza party from a local Papa John’s. Additional fundraising incentives will be provided to the second and third place fundraising teams as well.
