Fighting Childhood Cancer, One Carafe at a Time

Florida-based, farmer-owned cooperative Florida’s Natural teams up with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation

As the saying goes, “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.” Florida-based, farmer-owned cooperative Florida’s Natural Growers has done just that. Just in time for lemonade season, the makers of the all-American, not-from-concentrate orange juice have tripled distribution of their old-fashioned Florida’s Natural® Brand Lemonade, made from 100% U.S.-grown lemons. And proceeds from every carafe of lemonade sold help fight childhood cancer.

For the second year, Florida’s Natural has teamed up with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), one of the nation’s leading philanthropic organizations in support of pediatric cancer research. Any time a carafe of Florida’s Natural® Brand Lemonade is purchased, all profits will be donated to the foundation, which has already raised more than $120 million and funded over 550 research projects dedicated to putting an end to childhood cancer.

Additionally, Florida’s Natural will support fundraising events in the Boston area during Alex’s Lemonade Days, which take place June 10 to 12 across the country. The Lemonade Days were created to encourage everyone to host a lemonade stand and donate the funds to childhood cancer research. Florida’s Natural® Brand Lemonade will be sampled at lemonade stands in the following locations and times on June 10:

  • Faneuil Hall, (1 Faneuil Hall Sq., Boston, MA 02109), 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • City Hall Plaza (City Hall Sq., Boston, MA 02109), 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
  • The Green at 3rd Ave (3rd Avenue, Burlington, MA 01803), 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Elena’s Café (50 Braintree Hill Office Park, Braintree, MA 02184), 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Front lot of 275 Promenade St., Providence, RI 02908, Noon – 2 p.m.

“Our partnership with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation began a year ago, and we wanted to build on that partnership to help further support their mission.” said Chris Groom, Chief Marketing Officer at Florida’s Natural Growers. “Respect and giving back are important values to Florida’s Natural, and we are privileged to play a part in the Foundation’s contributions toward childhood cancer research.”

Diagnosed just before her first birthday, ALSF founder Alexandra “Alex” Scott began hosting lemonade stands at age four to help kids like her who were affected by pediatric cancer. Before she died in 2004, Alex was able to raise over $1 million to support her cause—all through lemonade stands hosted in her name. ALSF exists to carry on Alex’s legacy, and offers a platform for other children battling cancer—and those who have survived—to tell their story.

“I personally find it inspiring that a little girl, Alex, was able to start such a huge foundation from doing something as simple as selling lemonade. Ever since I was diagnosed with cancer, I’ve wanted to start my own foundation, and her story has inspired me to do that,” said 15-year-old Brendan Barrie, cancer survivor and hero ambassador for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.

Florida’s Natural® Brand Lemonade is made from lemons grown entirely in the United States. It is available in regular and strawberry varieties, in the refrigerated section of grocery retailers in the Midwest, Texas, Northeast and Southeast.
