This September, I plan to fight childhood cancer, one mile at a time by participating in The Million Mile In memory of my baby girl, Patty. 
Patty was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma when she was 12. It was organizations like ALSF that helped her live with cancer over her 8-1/2 year fight for her life. 
She and I started fundraising for ALSF during her third year in treatment. We never raised as much as we hoped.

I believe that this year, with the help of my colleagues at Indiana Limestone Company and Polycor, we will meet the goals and fill the ALSF Travel Fund coffers overflowing! I know how badly Covid depleted that fund badly, with families and children stuck wherever they had had to travel to for their treatment. 
It broke Patty's heart to see what other childhood cancer families went through; the loss of jobs and the ability to just get fuel for transportation to treatments. She thought that we were lucky. We were with ALSF on our side. They helped find and paid four our lodging, food, and gas. Had they not, we would have been forced to give up on sone treatments. I know many families who did. 
No one should ever go through that. ALSF is one of the few that, in addition to supporting Chilhood Cancer Resaerch, takes care of the basic needs of the children and their families.
