Why did I choose ALSF as your mitzvah project? Alex started the charity here in Wynnewood and she went to Penn Wynne, one of the local schools in my district. I had always known about the charity, but never really looked into it. Cancer is familiar because my mom works with kids with cancer and does research in cancer at the same hospital (CHOP) where Alex was treated. My mom has also done research with grants funded by ALSF. I also have a friend being treated at CHOP for cancer.

What do I admire about Alex Scott?  She was so young when she got cancer and started her lemonade stand. She came up with the idea on her own and never needed others’ reassurance to jumpstart her ideas. She just wanted to help other kids with cancer with her generosity. When she was alive, she raised over million dollars.

What does ALSF do that makes a difference? Where does the money go? Since 2005, they have raised over 250 million. Alex’s story makes a difference because it inspires people. ALSF represents Alex and her determination, generosity, kindness, and persistence. The money they raise goes to research to help find cures for cancer and help kids with cancer. It also goes to families who need money to help pay for cancer treatment and take care of other costs.
