Wow, what a year it has been for Ethan. It's been busy and full of many ups and downs, but we are so incredibly grateful for the loving care he has received from so many.
For those of you who are new here, our son Ethan was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at just 2 months old. We are forever grateful to the medical team in Okinawa and the host nation hospital for their swift action in getting Ethan back to the United States for the specialized care he needed. Though it was incredibly difficult to leave a place so near and dear to our hearts, we trust that God has a plan for our family.
Ethan began his fight with two cycles of chemotherapy at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU. He responded well to the treatment and was able to go into observation. We then moved to San Antonio, Texas, where his care was transferred to Brooke Army Medical Center.
Unfortunately, a few months later, we received the devastating news that Ethan's tumor was growing again. We were heartbroken, especially since his dad, Aj, was away at Officer Training School. But our boy is a true fighter and began his next round of treatment with a smile.
Through countless appointments, chemotherapy sessions, and hospital stays, our boy has shown incredible resilience. As parents, people often tell us they don't know how we do it, but the truth is, we don't know how Ethan does it. He is facing something no child should ever have to, and he is our reason to push through each day. Some days are difficult, but Ethan brings so much light and joy to everyone around him. He is our fighter and our inspiration. We often remind ourselves that nothing is hard compared to what he is doing.
We are so incredibly thankful for the support we have received on this journey. Our medical team has been nothing short of amazing, and Ethan adores all of his doctors and nurses.
