When
Thank you for visiting Team Alex and Carly. Our team has been participating in The Million Mile since the beginning and, thanks to you, our team has raised over $320,000 through the years.
September is childhood cancer awareness month and it is a reminder to us how important it is to support cures for kids and resources for families who are affected.
Our efforts are inspired by our daughters, Alex Scott, founder of Alex's Lemonade Stand, and her best friend Carly Hillman. Alex and Carly met when they were both in treatment at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in 2001. Throughout Alex's life, they remained true friends, they shared the fight against cancer but shared so much more -- a love of animals, crafts, and just being together.
Alex passed away in 2004 at the age of 8 but remains a daily inspiration to so many. Carly is now 33 years old and is thriving-- she and her husband John have a toddler Lena and are expecting another little one this fall. In addition, this fall, Carly is publishing a book!! Giving us all another reason to be so proud of her.
Alex and Carly represent the many other kids we walk alongside as they battle cancer. Alex's long fight reminds us why we need new cures, and Carly shows us the bright futures we can make possible through research for kids who are fighting.
Once again we have set high a goal for our team because we know how important continued research funding is. Since we started, childhood cancer survival rates in the US have improved from 75% to over 85%-- a huge accomplishment that reflects all of your support.
Logging miles is a great way to remind ourselves of how far we have come while recognizing the journey to cures for all kids is not over yet.
We appreciate your support. Join our team, raise some money, or donate! We look forward to spending the month together for kids with cancer.
Gratefully,
Liz Scott and Jocelyn Hillman
