The 2013 Lemon Ball was incredible – thank you to everyone who made the evening a success! Nearly 900 people attended the sold out event that raised over $825,000. This means that multiple research projects searching for better treatments and cures for all childhood cancers will now be funded giving kids with cancer even more hope that a cure will be found.
The evening was a beautiful celebratory evening consisting of poignant and emotional speeches given by honorees Jeff Benjamin, Jeff Michaud and Marc Vetri (Alex Scott Crystal Cup); The Smith Family (Stand Hosts of the Year); and Paige & Mark Walsh (Volunteers of the Year) as well as Alex’s parents, Liz & Jay Scott. The energetic live auction, including a Fund a Cure portion where guests collectively raised more than $100,000 in a matter of minutes for a neuroblastoma research grant, engaged the entire room. Cocktails, dessert and dancing to the sounds of Brandywine Valley Talent’s Back2Life rounded out the gala and allowed everyone to let loose and have fun.
But, perhaps the highlight of the night was the participation of our inspiring childhood cancer heroes. These children ranging in age from 3 to 22, provided guests with an up close and personal glimpse of the lives that they’re changing by supporting ALSF through events like The Lemon Ball. From acting as hosts during the silent auction to presenting honorees with their awards, to high-fiving bidders during the live auction – these kids personified their titles as heroes and demonstrated the impact that support of childhood cancer can have.
