The 9th Annual Lemon Ball

The Ninth Annual Lemon Ball, on Saturday, January 10, 2015, was a special and meaningful night attended by nearly 1,000 supporters in “yellow tie.” With delicious food and drinks, fantastic silent and live auction items, and moving speeches from our honorees and childhood cancer heroes, it was a night to remember and most importantly, the outpouring of generosity at the Ninth Annual Ball raised more than $1 million for childhood cancer research.

Highlights from the evening included the presentation of the Alex Scott Crystal Cup to Stephen and Ivy Cohn, the Stand Host of the Year Award to Riley Gillespie and Volunteers of the Year Award to the Fitzgerald family. Childhood cancer heroes spoke poignantly and presented the honors.

The Fund a Cure portion of the evening was dedicated in memory of childhood cancer heroes Hope Bertelsen and Dan Hammond. Supporters raised $135,000 in a matter of minutes, and their donations were generously matched by Northwestern Mutual, so they will have an even greater impact.

Making the evening especially noteworthy, the funds raised at the gala propelled the Foundation’s total amount raised to over $100 million since Alexandra “Alex” Scott held her first front-yard lemonade stand in 2000, marking an amazing milestone for the Foundation that carries on her inspiring legacy.

The Ball was presented by Northwestern Mutual, Toys“R”Us & Volvo with support from Auntie Anne’s.

The 8th Annual Lemon Ball

The 2014 Lemon Ball on Saturday, January 11 was an amazing evening – thank you to everyone who made the event a success!

Another sold out crowd of more than 900 guests contributed to helping ALSF raise close to $900,000 at the 8th Annual Lemon Ball, with more than $100,000 alone raised during the Fund a Cure portion of the night. This money will help to fund thousands of hours of pediatric cancer research looking for better treatments and cures for all children with cancer.

In addition to emotional and resounding remarks from Liz and Jay Scott, other highlights of the gala included:

The Lemon Ball

  • Poignant award presentations to honorees including Jocelyn Hillman (Alex Scott Crystal Cup), The Rissolo Family (Stand Hosts of the Year), The Taggart Family (Stand Hosts of the Year) and Dash Wallooppiallai and Family (Volunteers of the Year).
  • Sweet and inspirational participation by a number of childhood cancer heroes who either presented awards, helped during the silent auction or gave “high fives” to bidders during Fund a Cure. These heroes provided guests with a personal glimpse of the impact and importance of their support of childhood cancer.
  • As noted above, a rousing live auction combined with the funds raised from the Fund a Cure portion of the evening resulted in guests raising more than $160,000 in a matter of minutes.
  • Cocktails, dessert and dancing to the sounds of Brandywine Valley Talent’s “Strangers” on a beautiful dance floor designed by Street Media allowed everyone to kick back and have fun!

A special thank you to our co-chairs Susie and John McCaughey, presenting sponsors Northwestern Mutual, Toys”R” Us and Volvo and all of our sponsors, board members, volunteers and staff.
