This season, our team is coming together to host an Alex's Lemonade Stand with a very special purpose. We are dedicated to raising funds for childhood cancer research in honor and loving memory of Shepard Moreno, the nephew of our District Manager, Olyvia Moreno, and the son of a former teammate, Thomas Moreno.
Shortly after Shepard's second birthday, doctors discovered a cancerous tumor on Shepard's liver. What was initially thought to be an easily treatable case quickly revealed itself to be an extremely rare, fast-growing, and aggressive form of cancer. For a year and a half, his family fought tirelessly for his life through grueling series of "one step forward, one step back" challenges. Shepard endured several rounds of chemotherapy, two rounds of radiation, and six surgeries. Through every single procedure, his family held onto hope and prayed for a breakthrough. Tragically, Shepard passed away suddenly on April 11th, 2026, at just three and a half years old.
Though Shepard's life was devastatingly cut short, it was defined by an incredible abundance of love and happiness. He was a remarkably smart, mature, and resiliently strong little boy who lit up every single room he entered. Shepard loved dinosaurs, paw patrol, Mickey Mouse, and playing in the pool in the summer!
Any parent will go to the ends of the earth to save their child, but the reality of that fight comes with an immense emotional and financial burden. While Shepard's family did not personally utilize Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, they experienced firsthand how critical non-profit organizations are in easing the financial strain on families during the darkest times of their lives.
By supporting our stand, you are helping to fund the vital research needed to find a cure so that other families don't have to experience this heartbreak. We want to ensure more children get the chance to just grow up.
Please join us in remembering Shepard this season!
Last year, our stand raised just over $500! Because of your incredible generosity, we have increased our goal this year to $750 in honor of Shepard.
