In May 2024, Alice had an MRI to try and identify the cause of her lifelong issues with balance. Her family fully expected to be sent home and told that they were worrying too much about milestones, but instead were ushered into a room and told that their 3 year old had a tumor on her brainstem, and would need immediate surgery to relieve the hydrocephalus caused by the tumor. Hours later, as Alice was coming out of surgery, they were told that Alice’s tumor was an aggressive and untreatable type known as DIPG, or Diffuse Midline Glioma, and Alice was given less than a year to live.

Planning to begin radiation, Alice's family met with the team at CHOP, who suggested a biopsy of the tumor, and Alice received a new diagnosis of a low-grade glioma. Though her tumor remains inoperable, it is treatable, and Alice underwent 60 weeks of chemotherapy. 

Today, Alice's tumor remains mainly stable, though we watch it closely. Throughout frequent MRIs and weekly medical appointments, Alice is still her silly, sweet, and energetic self. She loves to help others, and is so excited to host her very own lemonade stand for the second year! 

Every day, nearly 800 children are diagnosed with cancer around the world. there are almost 800 new cases of childhood cancer around the world. Despite this, childhood cancer remains vastly and consistently underfunded, with less than 4% of the federal government's total funding for cancer research dedicated to childhood cancers each year.
