Exactly 10 years later, on October 25, 2009, I will run the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM 2009) in Washington, DC with David Dienstman . I now volunteer and raise money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF). "Fighting childhood cancer, one cup at a time." I do this in honor a brave young girl, Alexandra "Alex" Scott (1996-2004), who waged her courageous battle against her own cancer; but, lost that fight in 2004. Before she died, she began with a single lemonade stand on her front lawn in her/my home town of Wynnewood, PA. From this one stand, this amazing child inspired a foundation with lemonade stands across this great country and across the globe that has raised over $25,000,000! This cause "hits home" for me for many reasons. If Alex were alive today, she would be enjoying her summer and be in 8th grade this September with my son, Trevor, at Bala Cynwyd Middle School...
I have set a target to raise $1,000,000 in 1,000 Days (Oct. 25, 2009 begins the daily countdown) for ALSF “fighting childhood cancer, one mile at a time.” In addition to the $5,000 in funds I’ll raise from friends, family, co-workers, etc through the "Lemon DONATE link" to the right, we have secured 25 slots from the SOLD OUT 2009 Marine Corp Marathon and will use these slots to raise $50,000. Other vehicles for fundraising will be pub nights, silent auctions, and a partnership with Pocono Raceway.
We can all make a difference in the fight against childhood cancer, the #1 killer of children under the age of 15 in the United States. Please contribute $1 to $10 for each of the 26.2 miles of the marathon ($26.20 to $262.00) or any other amount that’s in your heart. Childhood cancer WILL be cured. Every contribution gets us one mile closer to the cure we all are so desperately seeking. PLEASE click on the "Lemon DONATE link" in the box above on the right to make a donation via credit card or mail a check to: ALSF c/o Steve Grosswald - 250 E. Wynnewood Rd. Suite G12 - Wynnewood, PA 19096. THANKS!
Running for a Cure,
Steve Grosswald
