When
In 2018, The Million Mile members of Team Nathan walked, ran, and biked 1198 miles and raised $2063 for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. This money, donated by family, friends, and co-workers, is enough to fund 41 hours of pediatric cancer research.
I invite all of you (and your friends and families and even your dogs) to join me and Team Nathan again this September to raise awareness and help fund pediatric cancer research and other programs supported by Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. It's easy and free to join, and there are no fundraising minimums or commitments. Tracking miles is easy with integrations provided by MapMyFitness, Fitbit, or Strava, or you can log your miles manually.
If you're looking for a mileage goal, here are some ideas...
1... the unlucky child out of 285 who will be diagnosed with cancer. Walk or run 1 mile a day for that kid.
4... the percent of federal government cancer research funding that goes to study pediatric cancer.
6... the average age of a child diagnosed with cancer.
35... the percent of children diagnosed with cancer who will die within 30 years of diagnosis.
43... the number of children diagnosed each day with cancer.
50... the cost, in dollars, of one hour of pediatric cancer research.
60... the percent of children who survive cancer that suffer late-effects, such as infertility, heart failure, and secondary cancers.
66... the survival rate of a child diagnosed with pediatric AML.
71... the average number of years of life lost to pediatric cancer.
88... the percent of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation dollars that are spent on the programs and services it delivers (per Charity Navigator).
