As you know, this was a tough year for Colton as he relapsed in January. Watching him beat leukemia a second time through surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy and a bone marrow transplant makes us grateful that treatment options were available for him. Every year, there are an estimated 300,000 new cases of cancer that affect children under the age of 20 worldwide. And yet, childhood cancer is vastly and consistently underfunded, especially if it is a rare cancer - in Colton's case a common leukemia with a genetic component (MLL-rearranged) that makes it very difficult to treat.
This year I will again be running the Marine Corps Marathon (October 30) to raise money for childhood cancer research. I hope that you will join me in donating so ALSF can sponsor researchers who develop cures for this awful disease. Maybe the money we raise could fund research leading to treatment that could save a child, or even prevent a family from going through what Colton and his family had to this year.
Any amount is appreciated but a minimum $50 donation will put your name on one of the 26 (awful) miles I have to run. Thank you for all the support you have given Colton and family this year - and for supporting us in this effort! God bless.
