A note from Ella:
Thank you for supporting Schreiber Slam the ReVIval: Wrestle for a Cause, and for honoring Pierce's wish to never be forgotten.
Inspired by my sister, Zoe, I felt motivated to help bring back Wrestle for a Cause with its unforgettable, meaningful connection to Pierce. Four years ago, my family became deeply involved with bringing back the Schreiber Slam after the tragic loss of Pierce Slutzky in September 2019. A caring friend and class of 2020 member, Pierce lost his fierce battle with medulloblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer.
Throughout his fight, Pierce was dedicated to succeeding in school. His determination offers incredible perspective and inspiration: despite sixteen weeks of proton radiation, two years of chemotherapy, two stem cell transplants, one trial, two brain surgeries and other surgeries for port and Omaya placements, two years of home school, over sixty nights in the hospital, and taking his last regents hooked up on morphine at the hospital, Pierce maintained a 4.1 GPA and excelled on his regents exams.
Pierce's spirit was unwavering, and he dreamed of graduating and going to college; tragically, it was a dream Pierce did not get to realize. Now, four years later, many of Pierce’s 2020 high school peers will fulfill that dream, and so many have been inspired by his fiercely awesome determination.
Through this ALSF site, you can make a donation in Pierce's memory directly specified towards funding research towards a cure for medulloblastoma which claimed his life. Additionally, a scholarship was created in Pierce’s name in 2020 for dedicated, college-bound students. Funds raised from ticket sales from the March 6th Schreiber Slam ReVIval will support Pierce's memorial scholarship.
Be awesome,
Ella
About ALSF:
Every day, there are almost 700 new cases of childhood cancer around the world. This adds up to an estimated 250,000 new cases of cancer affect children under the age of 20 each year worldwide. And yet, childhood cancer is vastly and consistently underfunded with less than 4% of the federal government's total funding for cancer research is dedicated to childhood cancers each year.
ALSF founder, Alex Scott, started Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation with one front yard lemonade stand. Today, ALSF has raised over $150 million and has funded nearly 1,000 research grants at institutions around the U.S. and Canada. It all started with one cup of lemonade. You can carry on Alex’s inspiring legacy by raising money to fight childhood cancer. Please make a donation of any amount to help more kids like Alex fight cancer.
Today, the money you donate has the potential to make a huge difference in the lives of kids with cancer (and their families). Your donation will go to research into better and safer treatments and more cures. Please don’t make these kids wait longer than they have to and give today!
