Foundation Fundraiser ~ in honor of Liz Stauffer!
In March 2006, Elizabeth “Liz” Stauffer, daughter of Kate and Larry Stauffer, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in her cerebellum at the age of 16. She underwent two resection surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy that lasted for one year. There were no signs of any tumors for three years, but in August of 2010, an MRI detected a new small tumor growing in the same site. Liz underwent a third resection and is currently back in treatment. All of her treatment has taken place at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Liz successfully finished high school during her first round of treatment and received three scholarships for college. She is currently a junior and full-time student at Albright College in Reading, PA, and plans to graduate on time in 2012, if not earlier! Liz loves children, is active with her friend’s memorial fund (The Ally Perkins Memorial Fund), plays tennis and basketball recreationally, and works part-time on campus. With determination, Liz states that she “won’t let cancer ruin her life” and serves as a tremendous role model for embracing life with strength, passion, positivity, and resilience.
Larry Stauffer, Liz’s father, is a Maintenance Tech III Electric in Cabrini’s Facilities Department and is approaching his 30th anniversary of employment in September of this year. Liz’s mother, Kate Connolly Stauffer, graduated from Cabrini College in 1983 with an undergraduate degree in education and special education, and also received her master’s degree in special education in 1999. Liz has two brothers, Nick and Michael. Nick is studying an individual major in art at Cabrini College and is planning to graduate in 2012, and Michael is a senior at the Upattinas School.

Donate $5 and wear your jeans on Tuesday, April 19! (Donations can be sent/delivered to Joanne Mattioni, 86 Founder’s Hall.) Don’t forget to wear YELLOW with your jeans!
