I handed Alex Avila the book about the little girl, Alex Scott, who had cancer and decided to host a lemonade stand to help raise funds for children's cancer treatment. I didn't say a word and he picked it up and read it cover to cover. After he was done he looked at me and said "wow mommy, is this real?" And I explained how the book was based on a real girl with cancer and that there is an organization that helps to fund cancer research that the little girl named Alex in the book started. I then showed him this website and before I even was able to explain anything he saw the button to sign up and shouted "mommy! Can I sign up? I want to help raise money and have a lemonade stand too!".
Every day, there are almost 800 new cases of childhood cancer around the world. This adds up to an estimated 300,000 new cases of cancer that affect children under the age of 20 each year worldwide. And yet, childhood cancer is vastly and consistently underfunded with less than 4% of the federal government's total funding for cancer research dedicated to childhood cancers each year.
Today, the money you donate has the potential to make a huge difference in the lives of kids with cancer (and their families).
ALSF was one of 3 of the major funders for research into the revolutionary medication that is helping to rid Alex's cousin from his cancer. Your donation will fund research into safer, more effective treatments and cures. Give today or watch for updates on when Alex will be having his next lemonade stand!
