Hi! I’m Josie! I’m 9 years old and love drawing and cats. I was also diagnosed with a rare bone cancer! I was diagnosed March of 2023 with Ewing sarcoma. I had spots on my head and on my shoulder.
It was very hard at first. I had to do tons of IVs and would cry beforehand. And I had to sit in a clinic room getting chemo which made me super nauseous. We tried switching to doing chemo at home using a oral solution but it tasted so bad, I threw it up every time.
But we started figuring it out. I got a G-Tube installed, which is a device on my belly which connects directly to my stomach, allowing me to take medicine without ever tasting them!
I now do my chemo at home through my G-Tube and I now have a port, which means I don’t have to get IVs anymore, they just poke the port instead (I still have to get bloodwork every week). And they got me a prescription for a special cream called Lidocaine cream to put on my port so it doesn’t hurt. All my nurses & doctors are amazing and I have such a easier life now.
Unfortunately, about a month ago my legs got really weak and stopped working. We did a scan and it says I have more tumors on my spine pressing on a nerve. I am currently just doing my chemo and waiting for the tumors to shrink so I can use my legs again.
I hope by sharing my story I can help other kids and inspire you to donate to Ewing sarcoma research.
