Stewart Manor Talent Show

When Ms. Termini and her co-director Mrs. O'Leary at Stewart Manor School were researching how their students could make a difference, they wanted to see if any district kids needed support. Then, they discovered that one of their students was fighting cancer. As soon as they found out all that Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation did to help her fight, they were on board.

Every year, the school hosts a talent show and raises money through numerous fundraisers. Their two-month effort featured selling paper lemons sold and hung them on school walls, lemonade stands held at school and student homes and a t-shirt fundraiser that the school hosts every Friday throughout May and June. It all leads up to the big event, the student talent show where the students perform their hearts out! Even the refreshments and ticket sales are donated to ALSF!

Teachers also take the time to educate their students about cancer, a need for a cure and making a difference.“We have learned, that while hosting a stand, it is essential to become knowledgeable in the purpose of the Foundation and understand its history. We ask our students to build awareness of childhood cancer and how to make a difference in the world.

"We enjoy seeing our students become caring and empathetic individuals. They are responsible for running lemonade stands, monitoring sales, and organizing events in our school. They develop a passion for helping others,” said Ms. Termini.

Ms Termini and Mrs. O'Leary's Tip to Stand Hosts: Become knowledgeable about the purpose of the Foundation and understand its history. By educating people about the cause and telling them about Alex, they take great pride in what they’re doing and are motivated by compassion. As a result, they put their whole heart into fundraising.
