Despite the rainout, the 3rd annual youth baseball Alex Gordon Classic benefiting Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) still raised over $40,000. The tournament organizer, Midwest Sports Productions, provides youth from across the Midwest with unique and valuable tournament experiences through well managed and highly organized events.
Alex Gordon has supported ALSF for 11 years as a local spokesperson. The World Series winner and 4-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner participates in several activities including public service announcements, meeting children diagnosed with cancer, as well as visits to youth lemonade stands supporting the Foundation. In 2016, he was named the ALSF 2016 Volunteer of the Year! For more on Gordon’s efforts with ALSF, please visit Royals.com/Lemonade.
To help raise funds for childhood cancer research, each Alex Gordon Classic youth team is encouraged to hold a lemonade stand or other event to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. The team that raises the most funds will have the opportunity to win various prizes including a Meet & Greet with Alex Gordon and watch Royals batting practice prior to the July 1, 2017 game. The top 4 teams met Alex on Saturday morning. Each player had an item autographed and a team picture with Alex. Papa John’s gave each player a coupon for a free Papa John’s pizza. Price Chopper was a Presenting Sponsor and Vice President Casie Broker was on hand to thank the teams for their involvement.
