Introducing The Lemon Slice Golf Anywhere Event

With many charity golf tournaments cancelled, postponed or scaled back, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) has launched a virtual event that offers the opportunity for golfers from across the country to raise money for kids fighting cancer while safely playing on their own terms.

During the month of August, participants can creatively raise money for ALSF while playing golf at any course. Ways to raise funds include donating the proceeds of a wager on a difficult hole, donating the fee it would cost to play a round or the amount it would cost to have lunch during each outing. Check out our fundraising tips for more ideas!

Golfers can register individually or as foursomes. Each participant will receive a link to a personal fundraising page where they can easily donate their proceeds online as they play. To make for some friendly competition, ALSF will also track fundraising leaderboards throughout the month and will award the top individual fundraiser with a meaningful prize: framed artwork and a plaque made by a special childhood cancer hero.

Childhood cancer research remains underfunded and kids with cancer are still waiting for life-changing treatment. These children and their families are also among those most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now more than ever, we must find safe and creative ways to continue supporting those who need us most. If you already plan to play golf this season, why not make an impact while doing so? Join us and register today!

Fundraising Information

Kid golfing

We encourage participants to fundraise as groups or individuals. Below are some on-course contests to help generate fundraising that will make for an entertaining and competitive golf outing. Every dollar raised helps make a difference for kids with cancer and we will be awarding our top individual fundraiser with a meaningful prize at the end of the event!

On-Course Contests

  • Hole Challenge: Pick the lowest handicap hole on your course. Challenge your golf mates to make a wager on who scores the best on the hole. Whoever wins the challenge gets to donate all the proceeds to their fundraising page.
  • Longest Drive: Pick the longest Par 5 on your course. Challenge your golf mates to make a wager on who can drive the ball the furthest. Whoever wins the challenge gets to donate all the proceeds to their fundraising page.
  • Closest to the Pin: Pick the shortest Par 3 on your course. Challenge your golf mates to make a wager on whose first shot lands closest to the hole. Whoever wins the challenge gets to donate all the proceeds to their fundraising page.
  • Mulligan: Donate an amount to redo a stroke with no penalty.
  • Recall (Reverse Mulligan): Donate an amount to force a player within your group to redo a stroke.
  • Par Donations: Donate an amount for every stroke over par you finish with at the end of each round of golf.
  • Score Donations: Donate the amount you or your group scored during a game, or donate the sum of each player’s score.
  • Entry Fee: Donate the equivalent amount it costs to play a round of golf at a certain course or what a tournament entry fee would cost.
  • Lunch Fee: If someone is taking you out to play at their club and covers lunch, offer to make an equivalent donation to ALSF as a way to contribute to the outing.

Fundraising Prize

When the event concludes on August 31, we will award our top individual fundraiser with a meaningful prize: original framed artwork and a plaque made by a special childhood cancer hero.
*Prize will be sent to the winner immediately following the event.

General Fundraising Tips

Aside from raising funds on the golf course, here are some additional tips on fundraising and spreading the word about this virtual event.

  • Use your ALSF fundraising page: Raise funds online – send your fundraising page link to your friends, family and co-workers so that they can contribute to the cause. You can also fundraise through Facebook; if you opt to fundraise this way, please let us know directly so we can assist with properly tracking and coding your donations.
  • Social media: Use social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or LinkedIn to spread the word about the virtual event! Tag your friends, family and co-workers to join you in this cause. RSVP ‘Going’ on the ALSF Facebook event page and invite your friends. Join the general ALSF Facebook page and follow us on Twitter to find out up-to-date information about the latest developments with the event.
  • Accept donations by check: Make sure to tell your donors that they can donate to your virtual golf benefit page by writing a check made payable to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. They will receive a tax receipt for their donation. Make sure they include your event ID so the donation gets credited to your page.
  • Honor a hero: Your fundraising page features an honored hero – share the story of your honored hero with your friends and family and encourage them to make a donation as a way of further honoring this young childhood cancer fighter.
  • Matching gift programs: Often companies will match their employee’s donations to charitable causes, so a $20 donation to your event could easily become $40!
