What is the definition of a hero? Someone who is brave, courageous and goes above and beyond? That was Becky. She was 8-years-old when she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, bone cancer. She had just celebrated her 8th birthday with a bowling party, she had just walked the Elmwood Zoo for her class trip, and she was in tournament softball. She had complained of her right leg hurting her. I told her of course it hurts, you are using it a lot. After her pain lingered for a week, I made a doctor's appointment. Her right femur bone was broken clean through when they x-rayed it. It had also gone to her lungs.

She endured 9 surgeries, 5 rounds of chemotherapy, and 4 different experimental therapies - all to no avail.

Through all of this, the smile never left her face. I could never go through all she did and still keep on smiling. All she wanted was to be a kid. She brought two rival communities together in their support for her. Even a year after she has passed, she is still remembered by all of her friends.  She was loved by all and will never be forgotten.

Becky is my hero. We miss you Babe!
