Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation’s 11th Annual Lemon Ball Raises over $840,000 for Childhood Cancer Fight

The 2017 gala honored dedicated supporters and celebrated what would have been Founder Alexandra “Alex” Scott’s 21st birthday.

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a nonprofit dedicated to finding cures for all kids with cancer, hosted the 11th Annual Lemon Ball, presented by Applebee’s, Northwestern Mutual and Volvo on Saturday, January 14, 2017. The annual fundraising gala raised over $840,000.

The gala, an evening of cocktails, dinner, raffles, silent and live auctions and entertainment, brought together supporters of the Foundation’s mission at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown. The evening celebrated the life and inspiration of founder Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004), whose birthday is January 18th – Alex would have been 21 this year. To honor Alex’s milestone birthday, guests who donated over $5,000 during the live auction received a plate of Liz Scott’s famous lemon cookies (which are featured in the new ALSF cookbook, Alex’s Table) and bottle of champagne to toast Alex.

Penn Wynne Elementary School, the school that Alex attended, was honored with the Alex Scott Crystal Cup. The Carpino family of Swedesboro, NJ was honored as the Stand Host of the Year. Longtime ALSF supporters, Mary and Molly Hollway of Bloomington, MN were honored as Volunteers of the Year.

During the live auction, Liz’s lemon cookies and champagne toast raised over $35,000. The live auction raised a total of $102,000, with a dinner made by Kevin Sbraga dinner selling twice at $11,000 each. The silent auction brought in over $92,000. The program ended with the Foundation’s Fund-A-Cure, which raised money for ALSF’s Travel For Care program. As Fund-A-Cure began, the stage was filled with childhood cancer heroes and their siblings, known as SuperSibs, to remind donors of who they are helping. Fund-A-Cure raised over $100,000 for Travel For Care, which will help an estimated 200 families travel for childhood cancer treatment.

The evening – which acts as the unofficial kickoff to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation’s fundraising year – culminated with cocktails, dessert and dancing. For more information and photos from the event, please visit TheLemonBall.org.
