Kick-It to Join the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation Family to Continue the Fight Against Childhood Cancer

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a nonprofit dedicated to finding cures for all kids with cancer, is excited to announce Kick-It, a national charitable athletic program created by Flashes of Hope, will join the ALSF family to continue to grow in the fight against childhood cancer. Like ALSF, Kick-It was started by a young child with cancer who wanted to help other sick kids. Under ALSF, Kick-It will continue to harness the energy of athletes and athletic events to help families and give supporters another way to engage and raise money and awareness for childhood cancer.

Kick-It was founded in 2009 by 10-year-old Quinn Clarke during his second battle with cancer. Similarly to Alex asking her parents to hold a lemonade stand, Quinn asked his parents if he could have a kickball game to raise money for research. Another parallel to Alex’s story was when more than 500 people came to support him and inspired people from across the country and as far away as Hawaii and Australia to help save the lives of children with cancer.

In the past, Kick-It has co-funded childhood cancer research projects with ALSF. When Kick-It was seeking a new home to expand their programs’ reach, ALSF was a natural fit because of their similar backgrounds and previous partnership.

To date, Kick-It has raised over $4.6 million through kickball games and Kick-It Champions. Individuals, schools, organizations or businesses can host kickball games or tournaments as a fun, community fundraiser. The Kick-It Champions program is for individual athletes of all ages who dedicate their sport season to raising awareness and funds for childhood cancer through pledges and donations. In 2016, Kick-It Champions raised nearly $190,000. Most Kick-It Champions have been football kickers who accept pledges for made extra points and field goals, but the program has been adapted to many sports!

While ALSF started as a front yard lemonade stand, supporters have always been encouraged to be creative in their fundraising and awareness efforts. The partnership with Kick-It gives childhood cancer supporters another creative way to raise money and awareness.

“I am honored that Kick-It has entrusted ALSF to continue Quinn’s vision and the amazing work Kick-It has accomplished,” said Liz Scott, Alex’s mom and co-executive director of ALSF. “Collaborating with a like-minded organization will enhance our ability to fund innovative research and bring us closer to finding cures.”

“We have been co-funding research with ALSF for many years and this partnership will allow our organizations to do even more together,” said Allison Clarke, Quinn’s mom and founder/executive director of Flashes of Hope. “We have long admired the work of ALSF and we consider it a privilege and honor to work with people who share our commitment to children with cancer.”
