The Lemon Run, Philadelphia’s Most Inspiring, Cancer-Fighting 5K, Returns Sunday, November 13, 2016

The 8th annual event brings together families of childhood cancer fighters, friends, supporters and athletes.

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a nonprofit dedicated to finding cures for all kids with cancer, will host The Lemon Run Philadelphia 5K Run/Walk and Kids’ Dash, presented by Volvo, on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 8 AM at Memorial Hall in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park.

The 8th annual event brings athletes of all abilities together to support the battle against childhood cancer. Participants are encouraged to register in advance to receive reduced rates. Summer rate ($35 for adult 5K runner, $25 for adult walker and $15 for Kids’ Dash) ends August 31 and the Fall rate ($40 adult 5K runner, $30 adult walker and $15 for Kids’ Dash) is available from September 1 through November 9. Virtual runners and child 5K runners (12 and under) registration fees remain at $25. After November 9, registration is available up until and on the day of the event, but increased rates will apply.

Running enthusiasts and all ALSF supporters are invited to participate or attend the event to raise funds and awareness for the fight against childhood cancer. The 3.1 mile course runs through West Fairmount Park and is perfect for first time 5K runners. Returning for the second year, is the Centipede Run. This is a special division of the race where participants are tethered as a unit while they run the course and will literally be joined together in support of the cause.

As in previous years, participants are encouraged to form a team, bringing together friends and family members to challenge themselves to complete the course and raise additional funds. Several teams honoring hero children are among the early registrants, like Team Fight Like Hail in memory of Hailey Parker. In 2015, 125 of Hailey’s family and friends walked, ran and danced in her memory and raised over $22,000 for childhood cancer research.

The Lemon Run is a family-friendly event, which includes a Kids’ Dash, as well as the participation of several childhood cancer heroes and their families. Winners in each age group will be recognized as part of an awards ceremony at the end of the race, along with top fundraising teams. The day’s festivities will also include various forms of entertainment, music and guest speakers.

Supporters don’t have to live in the Philadelphia-area to participate in The Lemon Run. Anyone can be a virtual runner/walker and complete a 5K course in their hometown. This allows participants to be with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation in spirit and help kids with cancer everywhere.
