Alexa Geyer loves to paint and draw. She hates pizza. She is quiet and loves her kittens Bella and Ella. Alexa is 12 years old.

Alexa has Neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that disturbs cell growth in the nervous system, causing tumors to form on nerve tissue. Alexa has routine MRIs to monitor this disorder. In the summer of 2014, Alexa was having some unusual symptoms, so her parents brought her in for an additional MRI. Doctors discovered a tumor in her brain stem.

Alexa’s current treatment is chemotherapy to try to stabilize the tumor. Her mother dreams of her brave, strong girl growing up and being healthy. Her deepest hope is for a cure. To other families facing a childhood cancer diagnosis, she advises: “It will be hard some days but there are good days too, Keep your head up!”

Alexa also has lots of wisdom to share with other childhood cancer heroes. She says:

Stand strong and carry on.
Tomorrow is another day.
Take one day at a time.
