Dr. Peter Campbell, MD/PhD, collaborates with fellow Crazy 8 researchers in barcoding pediatric leukemia for therapeutic purposes. Dr. Campbell is head of the Cancer, Ageing and Somatic Mutation program at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. His main area of interest is in cancer genomics – particularly, genome-wide analyses of somatic mutations in tumors. His expertise lends itself to the large-scale sequencing of cancer genomes, development of computational tools to integrate and analysis of genomic data sets in cancer to improve the clinical management of patients. Dr. Campbell’s research extends into patterns of mutation in normal cells and how the earliest changes of cancer accrue throughout life – including how these mutations shape the ageing process and their relevance to other diseases.
