Annie is a vibrant, silly and happy toddler that loves people and has a zest for life. Annie’s always just happy to be part of the party! She’s an observer, loves to sing, and has a great appetite for adventure. She takes amazing care of her baby dolls at home and her little brother, Will, too. She loves to clean and help organize the house, but most of all she loves going to the playground and soccer field right by her neighborhood.

As a baby, Annie didn't produce tears. Finally, at the age of 16 months, her parents took her to a pediatric ophthalmologist. There, Annie was immediately referred to Cleveland Clinic – her eye doctor could see tumors. Annie was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma.

Her parents felt so grateful that the cancer was caught early on. Annie had chemotherapy, radiation, and cryotherapy treatments to fight the tumors, and she is thankfully in remission today!

Annie’s mom, Katie, says her daughter is her hero because she never stops smiling and she's resilient. “At only 2 years old, she’s overcome so much,” Katie said. “We’re so proud to be her parents.”

Katie also wants those who may also be facing a childhood cancer diagnosis to know that, “You will meet so many people that feel like angels sent to you from heaven. You'll talk about them for the rest of your life, and they will help you and your warrior. Lean on your loved ones for comfort and strength and take it one day at a time. Always plan for something to look forward to. Keep the faith!”

Because of Anne’s experience, Katie wants to advocate for all babies to have access to early pediatric ophthalmologists for routine checkups and make it a protocol.

“It's an honor to be part of something bigger than ourselves and so important,” Kaite said. “We hope that in the future there will be more funding, research, prevention, and a cure for all pediatric cancers so that someday parents never have to hear the words "your child has cancer." Foundations like Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation are fighting for that future too.
