The research project will involve a secondary data analysis of previously completed interviews with bereaved parents: including 13 Hispanic, 12 Black, 29 non-Hispanic White caregivers. My team and our collaborators have been struck by the variety of events that these parents describe; they are vivid in their memories even 10 years after their child’s death – speaking to their impact. However, we don’t know much about these critical events. Therefore, Kathryn will identify these critical events, classify them quantitatively (e.g., medical or non-medical, who was involved, where it took place) and also identify common themes across events. She will present her progress at our weekly team meetings. She will also submit an abstract at the end of the summer for the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine Annual Assembly and will have the option of being 1st author on the accompanying manuscript.
