Investigating the cause of concurrent JMML and glioma in patients with NF1

Mentor Name: Elliot Stieglitz

NF1 is a disorder that some children are born with that makes them more likely to develop cancer. We have recently learned of several children with NF1 who presented to their doctor with both a brain tumor and a blood cancer at the same time. There are currently no reports of this type of presentation in the scientific literature. What we will accomplish with this POST award is to publish a scientific report that includes details of these cases to create awareness that children with NF1 can present with multiple concurrent cancers and try and understand why these children in particular developed more than one cancer at a time.
