The Childhood Cancer Blog

"bELIeve"

Home » Blog

We wanted to start off the blog this week with a note of remembrance. Sadly, one of our heroes and longtime stand hosts, Eli Matthews, lost his life to childhood cancer last week. Eli was 10-years-old. Eli and his family held several lemonade stands throughout his life, and as came to be their slogan, they “bELIeve” in a cure for leukemia. We send our condolences to Eli’s family, and will use his inspiration to continue our mission. For more on Eli, please click here.

Eli only reminds us of just how important the work of the foundation is, and how there are many ways that people can get involved. Whether it’s holding a lemonade stand like Eli and his brother did, or doing something simple like supporting one of our sponsors. During the summer time you can buy a paper lemon at Rita’s Water Ice, or purchase Lemonade Blend Mike & Ike’s anytime of year, or how about purchasing a raffle ticket to buy a car? Our founding sponsor, Volvo, has once again given us the opportunity to raffle off a brand new car! After two successful raffles in 2009 & 2010, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation will once again offer supporters the chance to win their choice of a brand new Volvo XC60, Volvo S60 or Volvo C70 in 2011! ALSF will sell 2,500 raffle tickets for $25 each or 10 for $200, with the winning ticket being drawn at Alex's "Original" Lemonade Stand on Saturday, June 11, 2011. As in years past, all proceeds from the raffle will benefit the fight against childhood cancer. For tickets and more information, click here.

Finally, we wanted to share something pretty cool with all of you. You may remember that a few months ago we invited supporters to send in photos donning ALSF gear in recognizable places within their home states. We were hoping to put together a video of supporters across the states, and part one is now complete! Check out the video below and make sure to share it with all of your friends. As we remember Eli this week, it is important to know that there are thousands of children who will continue to battle cancer in the days and years ahead. The fact that these young lives are being cut short is simply unacceptable. With the support of all of our stands hosts across the states, we are continuing our work to change that. Thank you for being a part of the challenge to find those cures!
