The Childhood Cancer Blog

10 days and counting...

10 days…only 10 days until September 1 is upon us and the Million Mile Run begins! The excitement is palpable as individual and team registrations continue to pour in (pun intended) here at ALSF consisting of supporters of all ages who will log their miles and contribute to us collectively walking or running 1 million miles in one month. The event hasn’t even officially begun and already we’ve fulfilled one of our major goals – heightening the visibility of September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. A huge thank you to everyone who has registered so far and remember, it’s never too late to sign up – you can do so prior to September 1 or anytime throughout the month. Did we mention that it’s free to participate?

Not so excited about September 1 as it signifies the end of summer and return to school, schedules and perhaps reality? To help get you into the back to school spirit and everyone’s favorite subject - math - we wanted to share one participant’s advanced arithmetic for how they plan to not only raise awareness, but also funds for childhood cancer research during the Million Mile Run. Check out how Team Halton is asking folks to help out – pretty cool indeed:

Math is really cool.
Especially this math:

I am 1 person.
I am asking you for 10 dollars.
I am looking for 100 sponsors while I walk 100 miles over the month of September.
Together for Team Halton that is 1000 dollars.
If 9999 other teams met this goal (10000 including me)
That will be $10,000,000 for childhood cancer.

Did you see that?
1
$10
100
$1,000
10,000
$10,000,000

Math is cool.
What's not cool – pediatric cancer. We all know someone who has been touched by cancer and this is something so easy to do to make a real impact.
