The Childhood Cancer Blog

See you in SeptAMMber

Childhood cancer hero Giulianna Troiano is one of our favorite AMM cheerleaders!

What does September mean to you? Do you cringe every time you see a Back to School ad when it’s still only July? Or do you welcome the thought of cooler temps and getting back to more of a routine?

For us at Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, September means one thing – time to intensify our awareness efforts of childhood cancer in honor of it being National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month through Alex’s Million Mile – Run. Walk. Ride. Our super September initiative has a new name for 2014 (it was called The Million Mile Run last year) because bike miles are included this year in our quest to collectively complete 1 million miles in one month.

Ready to join us? Sign up today at AlexsMillionMile.org! If it still sounds a little crazy to you, maybe it would help to bust a few AMM myths:

Alex’s Million Mile Myth #1: I need to be a marathoner and run all of my miles.
Nope. You can run, walk, ride or any combination of the three.

Alex’s Million Mile Myth #2: I need to complete 500 miles in September, by myself.
Not a chance. Although you can certainly participate as an individual with a lofty goal, most of our participants are on teams of various sizes that set a collective goal. Just think, if you formed a team of 4 people and you each walked a mile during your lunch break, you would log 100 miles in no time! Checkout some more fun ideas of ways to reach your goals at AlexsMillionMile.org.

Alex’s Million Mile Myth #3: I don’t live in the United States so I can't participate.
No way. Alex’s Million Mile Run is open to anyone, anywhere and is a worldwide event designed to bring people together from all over during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Did we mention that it's free to participate? We are encouraging everyone to fundraise - all funds raised will help to fund childhood cancer research projects - but it's not a requirement. Whether you complete 1 or 100 miles or raise $5 or $5,000 – you are helping to elevate the status of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and raise critically needed funds to support childhood cancer research projects looking for better treatments and cures.

Join us on our #Journey2aMillion! That’s our official hashtag – use it when posting photos and stories about your efforts in SeptAMMber. Let’s do this!
