PHILADELPHIA FLYERS ANNOUNCE DETAILS FOR HOCKEY FIGHTS CANCER NIGHT,
PRESENTED BY TOYOTA
ON NOVEMBER 2

All fans to receive lavender “Together We Fight” t-shirts in support of NHL initiative

Philadelphia, Pa. (October 31, 2016) – The Philadelphia Flyers will support the National Hockey League’s Hockey Fights Cancer initiative on Wednesday, November 2 when the club hosts the Detroit Red Wings at the Wells Fargo Center at 8 p.m. The game has been selected as the NHL’s feature Hockey Fights Cancer game and will be broadcast nationally on NBCSN.

A limited number of seats remain for Hockey Fights Cancer Night, presented by Toyota, and are available online at PhiladelphiaFlyers.com, or by calling 215-218-PUCK. All fans in attendance will receive a lavender “Together We Fight” Hockey Fights Cancer t-shirt, courtesy of Toyota. The Flyers will be the first NHL club to issue a t-shirt giveaway in support of the initiative.

Flyers players will also wear limited-edition lavender jerseys during pre-game warm-ups. Select jerseys will be auctioned off at www.meigrayauctions.com in the coming days, and a portion of proceeds will benefit Flyers Charities. Additionally, all players will sport the Hockey Fights Cancer logo on their helmet, and select players will use lavender stick tape. Flyers coaching staff will also don lavender attire during the game.

The evening’s festivities will be highlighted by an expanded partnership with local charity Alex’s Lemonade Stand, a childhood cancer foundation dedicated to raising funds for research into new treatments and cures for all children battling cancer.

Cancer survivor and friend of Alex’s Lemonade Stand, 11-year-old Andrew Vantresca from South Philadelphia, will be joined at center ice by captains from both teams for a ceremonial puck drop. At nine months old, Vantresca was diagnosed with a neuroblastoma. After several rounds of aggressive treatment, including chemotherapy and surgeries, he became cancer free.

Twenty children hosted by Alex’s Lemonade Stand will also be treated to special VIP Flyers experiences throughout the game, including sitting on the bench during warm-ups, escorting Anthemist Lauren Hart on to the ice, high-fiving the players from the ice, sitting in Claude Giroux’s “Giroux’s Crew” suite, riding the Zamboni, and experiencing the game from the broadcast booths.

Fans can support Alex’s Lemonade Stand at the game by purchasing lemonade from an Alex’s Lemonade ‘Stand’ on the Wells Fargo Center concourse, as a portion of proceeds will benefit the foundation.

The Flyers will show their support toward Hockey Fights Cancer during a special check presentation together with representatives from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Pediatrics. The team will also honor blood cancer survivor Andrew Clark, 17, from Chester Springs, Pa., as the evening’s “Community Teammate.” Clark was recognized as the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s “Student of the Year” this year after he spearheaded his school’s (Malvern Preparatory School) efforts to take part in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s “Pennies for Patients” campaign.  In just over seven weeks, Clarke helped raise $68,000 for the cause.

To build fan awareness about the fight against cancer, the following organizations will have a presence on the concourse throughout the game: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Alex’s Lemonade Stand, and Movember.
